All Aboard! It’s Party on the Pier

Party On The Pier

Party on the Pier – Saturday 12 March – is the launch event for British Tourism Week, with a series of events being held simultaneously at piers, harbours and jetties around the UK coastline. LV21 is joining in the fun and we’ve programmed our own FREE event “All Aboard!” to support the launch.

From 11am-5pm the party includes free nautical, family friendly activities and performances throughout the day aboard LV21. On the agenda are  the Big Fish Street Band who will get you into mariner mood. Join the drop-in workshops to add your own paper boat to our ever growing fleet, and try your hand at “porthole art” or learn the art of morse code with our resident radio expert Colin Turner.

You’ll have the chance to meet people behind other local restoration projects including the paddle steamer Medway Queen, the last estuary pleasure steamer surviving in the UK, soon to be returning to River Medway and the restoration of Chatham & District Traction Company’s sole surviving bus, GKE 68.

On the pier next to LV21 you will find the Kent Cultural Baton, a project aimed at uncovering unknown and hidden stories about the county. Meet artist Simon Barker, who is investigating the lost monument of Gillingham: Jezreel’s Tower, which was used as a navigational landmark. He is inviting local residents, who might be able to help with information of any kind about the lost building, to come and recount their myths and memories. An exhibition of finds and stories relating to this hidden part of Gillingham’s history will be on display inside the Baton.

The event and all activities are free of charge but donations towards the ongoing restoration and future community activities are welcomed. Workshops operate on a first come first served basis and are suitable for all ages and abilities.

Please note that children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult at all times aboard the vessel.

Wear suitable flat, non-slip shoes. The vessel is a restoration work in progress and access is limited. Please contact LV21 if you want to discuss any access issues.

In case of wet weather please check the website for information.

Free parking available on site.

See you there ShipMates!
