A Finnish Christmas is coming aboard LV21 to mark the 100th year of Finland’s Independence.

A series of weekend events – please check details for opening times.

LV21 will be putting the finishing touches to Christmas with Nordic themed family-friendly arts and crafts activities and entertainment that is set to run throughout the Christmas period. Events include:

Saturday 25 Nov | 12pm-3pm – Decorate a glass jar with frosty designs to help create a large outdoor “ice” lantern installation and make another smaller lantern to take home. At dusk on Wednesday 6 December, to celebrate the 100th year of Finland’s Independence, an installation of the 100 ‘frozen’ glass lanterns created with the local community will be revealed to illuminate the ship’s upper deck.

Saturday 2 | 12.30pm-3.30pm – Get immersed in magical Finnish folklore and mythology with activities inspired by Finland’s Epic Poem Kalevala. Take a Finnish Fact or Fiction quiz to learn more about the Land of Sauna, Sisu and Sibelius.

Saturday 9 | 12pm-3pm – Take the chill off with a Woolly Winter Warmer workshop while tucking into wintry Finnish nibbles and refreshments.

Saturday 16 | 12pm-4pm – Get into festive mood with some Finnish Christmas food and drink ideas and make your own Nordic paper Christmas decorations to take home. The 16th December also marks a milestone celebration for LV21 as the crew look back at the past eight years since the ship left her last service station to become a beacon for arts and culture.

Moments Frozen In Time | Exhibition

Every winter in Finland many frozen lakes, rivers and the surrounding seas become a playground for winter fun, from skating, skiing and walking to even fishing or swimming and much more. These frozen waters and icy winter scenes form a backdrop for an onboard exhibition of archive photos and films, featuring imagery of Finnish leisure activities on ice and icebreakers at work, as well as looking back at the Great Frosts of 17th-19th Century when the Thames froze over and played host to Frost Fairs.

The exhibition is open to public during the Christmas period workshops on 25 November, 2/9/16 December (times TBC).
