LV21 is the last lightship built in the UK by Philip and Son and her long service off the Kent coast will be celebrated and preserved for future generations. LV21 is registered with National Historic Ships, no. 2330 and celebrated her 50th birthday in September 2013.
The LV21 project aims to develop an archive of the history of Light Vessels and the role they played in ensuring the safety of seafarers. A small living museum will be established and will include interviews and films of former crew members, as well as displays of interesting artifacts and memorabilia.
LV21 will collaborate and work in partnership with diverse creative sector practitioners, groups, organisations, agencies, foundations and other relevant representatives, both professional and voluntary, and develop productive business relationships with the various education sectors in the area to deliver innovative art, culture and education projects that affect positive social change.
